Padded wheelchair jacket – designed for comfort whilst seated

An ordinary coat is designed for a standing position. When in a wheelchair, this can cause the long back of the coat to bunch up between the back and the backrest. This ochre-yellow quilted wheelchair jacket by GOZZ can be carried out using a shortened back panel of approximately 30 cm, so that the jacket fits better when you’re sitting down.

At the front, the design retains the look and protection of a standard padded jacket. The modification is mainly where it’s needed: at the back.

Shorter back panel for greater seating comfort

The short back panel reduces the amount of fabric between the wearer and the backrest of the wheelchair. This means the user does not have to sit on a long, bunched-up back of the jacket.

The back panel can be fitted as required with press studs or Velcro, so that getting dressed and undressed remains practical too.

Sleeves with zips for easier dressing

The sleeves can also be adjusted. You can choose between a a zip of about 20 cm on the forearm or for a full-length sleeve zip extending to the armpit.

The extra opening provides more space to slip the arm into the sleeve. This can be helpful for people with limited mobility in their arms and shoulders, or when someone is being helped to get dressed.

Magnetic zip fastening at the front

If it is difficult to fit a traditional zip, the jacket can be fitted with a magnetic front zip. The magnetic fastening helps to bring the two parts of the zip together.

A small adjustment like this can make a big difference in everyday use.

Practical, without the typical ‘nursing’ look

At GOZZ, we believe it is important that a functional adaptation does not dictate the look of the garment.

From the front, this wheelchair coat therefore looks like a modern quilted jacket. The high collar, sporty finish and warm ochre-yellow colour create a contemporary look, whilst the practical features are incorporated into the design as discreetly as possible.

What’s more, the jacket can with or without a hood are carried out.

Possible changes: shortened back panel (approx. 30 cm), press studs or Velcro on the back panel, sleeve zips (approx. 20 cm) or extending all the way to the armpit, magnetic front zip, and available with or without a hood.
